ECP Guest Lectures 2021

The European Center of Paleontology regularly organizes guest lectures (on-line) for Palaeobiology students, all students of the University of Opole and other palaeontology enthusiasts. The following interesting lectures have recently taken place:

Busy vacation

In the summer season, as every year, we conducted excavation works at the “Trias” site in Krasiejów. We searched for vertebrate remains from over 200 million years ago.
Our work is mentioned in the local media. We were also visited by the film crew of Prehistoric Polish Reptiles and science promoter Krzysztof Poznański from the YouTube channel “NaukowoTV”, who recorded a film about our favorites, metoposaurs together with a member of the ECP, dr Kamil Gruntmejer.

BVP and FORTHEM field schools

In mid-July, together with a group from the Belgian Paleontological Association (BVP), we have visited other interesting exposures and palaeontological sites of the Opole region and its vicinity: the Early /Middle Triassic of Gogolin, the Carboniferous of Przezchlebie, St. Anna Mountain Geopark and the Opole chalk exposure (ODRA II quarry). The field trips were accompanied by lectures by ECP members and laboratory work (fossil preparation).
For several days, the “Trias” site in Krasiejów was also visited by students from Spain, Germany and Poland as part of the summer school organized within the FORTHEM structure, in which seven universities, previously having extensive global and European partnerships and shared experience in academic projects, join forces and shares networks to create a permanent multilateral and European collaborative environment.

Palaeobiology – Masters of Sciences!

Several of our students (in a a very good style!) have ended their adventure with Palaeobiology studies, by defending their Master Theses on July 16th:
Hilde Desmet – Pelvic girdle of Stagonolepis (Archosauria: Aetosauria) from the Upper Triassic of Krasiejów, southern Poland
Ignace Nerinckx – Morphology of interclavicles of Metoposaurus from the Krasiejów lower bone-bearing horizon
Agata Kowalewska – Paleozoic arthropods from Baltoscandian eratics of Orlowo cliff coast, Poland
On September 13th Cristhian Molina Fernandez has joined the Masters group, defending the thesis:

Ist National Dinofan Rally

On July 9-11, the 1st National Dinofan Rally took place in Krasiejów. In addition to visiting the JuraPark and learning about the local fauna and flora, participants could listen to popular-scientific lectures by palaeontologists from the Polish Academy of Sciences (Prof. Tomasz Sulej, Dr. Daniel Tyborowski), the University of Opole, members of the ECP (Prof. Elena Yazykova, Dr. Mateusz Antczak, MA Dawid Mazurek) and science promoter Krzysztof Poznański from NaukowoTV. ECP members also took part in the attractions accompanying the rally as “Dinoexperts”. The next edition is coming next year, we can’t wait!
